Sometimes you just need a good cuppa.
Our little Bialetti Espresso maker is one of my favourite knockabouts. Pretty much any source of heat, and you can brew up a 3 shot serving of espresso. If 3 shots of espresso won’t put the jim in your jam, you should probably see a Doctor about that.
I like this little quick cooking rig. A perforated soup tin to allow airflow, hold a paraffin fire puck, and support a small pot, or in this case, espresso maker. The one flaw with this current can, is that the air intake holes at the bottom, are set a little too low. As the puck starts to burn down and the paraffin melts, it can easily overflow the intake holes and spill out, which amounts to wasted fuel. Not that we’re talking much in the way of monetary loss, but the inefficiency annoys me on a philosophical level. Also, the spilled wax is kind of messy.
Fortunately, it’s an easy enough fix. Empty soup cans are basically free building material, and it’s just a matter of drilling the holes a little higher up next time.
In the meantime, enjoy a nice cuppa.
